OUR HISTORY
Cambridge Place Apartments was built in 1973 by brothers Leslie H. Miller and Lyle W. Miller. Both Les and Lyle were graduates of the University of Iowa and made their home in Iowa City for many years. Les was an active member in the Optimist International club, was a Civil Engineer, and owned Coralville Products, a cement block plant. In his many years there he designed and submitted a US patent for an improved block making machine. Lyle was an active member in Lions Clubs International, owned Miller Lumberyard, and a retired General Contractor. Over the years he built many single family homes as well as multifamily complexes in the Iowa City area. Miller built homes are considered to be some of the best built homes in Iowa City as Les and Lyle prided themselves on quality workmanship and quality materials. They built, owned and managed Montclaire Park, Rochester Square and Cambridge Place Apartments. Phyllis H. Miller, Les's widow, took over ownership of Cambridge Place on January 1, 1994 and took part in daily operations until her death in 2008. Phyllis's daughters, Mary Kay Adams and Janet Witort took over ownership in May 2008 after Phyllis' death.
April 2009 began a new chapter in Cambridge Place's history. Phyllis' daughter Janet has decided it would be easier for the management of Cambridge Place for Mary Kay and Kevin to have full control. With Janet living in Nevada, it makes it difficult to keep abreast of all the daily activity and requirements of running Cambridge Place. Kevin Adams and Mary Kay Adams purchased Janet's portion of the building, and will continue on as the second generation owners in the years to come.
November 2016 Cambridge Place Apartments came online with a 35kWh solar array roof system to provide approximately 50% of common areas power to the building. This offset was installed and serviced by Eagle Point Solarand will effectively reduce our carbon footprint by at least 878 tons of CO2 over the lifetime of the system. That is like planting 20,457 trees, Driving reduced by 1,756,000 miles, reduction in the use of 89,556 gallons of gasoline, recycling 2,774 tons of waste rather than sending it to the landfill, Displacing CO2 emissions from the annual electric use of 100 homes, or reduce the amount of coal burned by 855,542 pounds. This adds to Cambridge Place Apartment's ongoing commitment to the environment. Pictures of the system may be found on our facebook page.
