Planning a move to a new apartment in Iowa City? Whether you’re upgrading your space or starting fresh, the key to feeling truly at home is adding those personal touches that reflect your style and make your apartment comfortable, functional, and uniquely yours.

Here are seven ways to make your new apartment at Cambridge Place feel like your own from day one.

1. Add a Statement Piece

Every space needs a focal point. Whether it’s a bold-colored couch, a vintage desk, or an eye-catching coffee table, a statement piece adds instant character to your apartment. It can be sentimental, quirky, or stylish—just make sure it speaks to you.

2. Go Bold with Artwork

Don’t be afraid to hang pieces that don’t “match” your couch. Choose artwork that inspires you, tells a story, or brings you joy. From vivid prints to black-and-white photography, your walls are a blank canvas—so skip the safe choices and show off your personality.

And don’t worry—we won’t charge you for small nail holes. As long as they’re not excessive or oversized, they’re considered part of normal decorating.

3. Display Beautiful Appliances and Kitchen Gadgets

These days, kitchen gear can double as decor. Instead of tucking everything away, leave out those colorful mixers, copper tea kettles, or artistic olive oil bottles. They’ll brighten your countertops and bring everyday beauty to your cooking space.

4. Mix in Interesting Textiles

Nothing warms up a space like great fabrics. Choose throws, pillows, sheets, curtains, and towels with inviting textures, rich colors, or fun patterns. Avoid the “hotel room” look and mix things up to make your space feel layered, lived-in, and comfortable.

5. Invest in a Quality Rug

Rugs make any space feel cozier—and they do more than just warm up hardwood or vinyl floors. While budget rugs can work in a pinch, investing in a higher-quality one means better texture, longer life, and a style that lasts.

Nylon and polyester options are durable and stain-resistant, while wool rugs are ultra-soft and luxurious—just be mindful of spills.

6. Add Smart Touches

Even in a rental, smart home features are within reach. Add smart plugs to control your lamps, speakers, or even your coffeemaker with your phone. You can set schedules, dim lighting in the evening, or shut things off remotely when you’re on the go.

Some plugs even work with voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant, so your space can feel high-tech without permanent installation.

7. Treat Yourself to a Few Luxuries

Whether it’s an espresso machine, a robotic mop, or buttery-soft sheets, adding a little luxury goes a long way in making your home feel like a retreat. Not every purchase needs to be practical—sometimes, it’s okay to get the things that just make life a little better.

Choose an Apartment That Feels Like Home from the Start

Of course, it’s even easier to settle in when your apartment already checks off the essentials. At Cambridge Place Apartments in Iowa City, we offer modern, thoughtfully designed 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartment rentals with the features that make everyday living easier:

Large appliances are included

Spacious floor plans

Extra storage space

Private patios or balconies

Heated underground parking

Elevator access

On-site fitness room

Secure building entry with surveillance

Quiet, pet-free environment

With a convenient location near shopping, restaurants, and everything Iowa City has to offer, Cambridge Place blends comfort and practicality in a community you’ll be happy to come home to.

2020 so far has been a year unlike any other.

With gatherings limited and daily routines turned upside down, Iowa City found creative ways to stay connected—even with six feet of separation. At Cambridge Place Apartments, we’ve seen firsthand how resilience, adaptability, and community spirit can shine through, even in the most unexpected circumstances.

When Plans Changed, Iowa City Got Creative

As the city adjusted to virtual events, outdoor dining, and curbside everything, our residents and staff found new ways to stay connected and support one another. While the typical rhythms of Iowa City apartment living shifted dramatically, what stood out was how quickly people adapted. Neighbors waved from balconies instead of gathering in hallways. Families scheduled video calls instead of potlucks. Simple gestures, like leaving a note on a door or offering to pick up groceries, reminded us that Separation doesn’t have to mean isolation.

2020 became less about isolation and more about discovering new ways to adapt together.

A Big Thanks to BSA Troop 270—and Our Residents

One of the most inspiring examples of that spirit came from BSA Troop 270, who found themselves without a place to safely meet indoors. Instead of cancelling activities, they got creative and used our garage area to hold socially distanced scout meetings. Masked, spaced out, and determined not to miss a beat, the troop continued to gather, learn, and grow—even in the middle of a year defined by change.

We’re especially grateful to our residents for welcoming this adjustment with patience and generosity. Allowing the troop to use the space was more than a logistical solution—it was a reflection of the supportive, community-first attitude that makes Cambridge Place Apartments such a unique place to live in Iowa City.

Keeping Homes Safe and Warm, One Repair at a Time

Of course, not everything could wait for the world to return to normal—especially when it came to repairs and inspections. Furnaces still needed servicing, water heaters still needed checking, and drafty windows still needed sealing. Throughout the year, our maintenance team worked tirelessly to balance two priorities: keeping residents safe and keeping apartments comfortable.

That meant suiting up with extra precautions, navigating shifting safety guidelines, and sometimes rearranging schedules around quarantines. The goal never changed, though—to make sure every apartment home stayed safe, warm, and livable. Even in a year full of obstacles, our team remained committed to providing the quality service Cambridge Place is known for.

Behind the Scenes: Patience, Flexibility, and a Whole Lot of Gratitude

Behind the scenes, 2020 has required patience, flexibility, and plenty of teamwork from everyone. Residents gave our staff space to work safely. Maintenance adapted to new procedures without missing a beat. Office staff found new ways to answer questions, schedule appointments, and check in with tenants.

And through it all, kindness has been the theme. We are deeply grateful for the understanding and cooperation of our residents, who made an unpredictable year far more manageable.

2020 Has Been Tough—But So Are You!

There’s no question that 2020 has challenged us all to rethink how we gather, how we help, and how we live side by side. But in many ways, it has made us stronger. We’ve seen neighbors look out for one another in ways big and small—waving from patios, checking in through phone calls, and finding new ways to share spaces respectfully.

At Cambridge Place Apartments, we believe apartment living in Iowa City is about more than just renting a unit—it’s about being part of a community. And this year, that truth has never been clearer.

Cambridge Place isn’t just where you rent an apartment in Iowa City—it’s where community lives.

Let’s be honest—winter in Iowa doesn’t hold back. One minute you’re admiring snowflakes from your balcony at Cambridge Place, and the next, you’re navigating black ice in the parking lot with your coffee in one hand and your scarf flying in the wind.

But don’t worry. A few smart habits—and the right Survival Guide—can go a long way toward keeping you safe, warm, and comfortable all season long—whether you’re enjoying the quiet of your apartment or braving the cold outdoors.

Winter Survival Guide:Keeping Your Apartment Cozy and Safe

There’s something magical about being inside while the snow falls—but only if your place stays warm and worry-free. The good news? Cambridge Place makes that pretty easy.

Still, it never hurts to double-check that nothing’s blocking your vents and that your entry mat is catching any melting snow. Wet floors can be sneaky. And if you notice a chilly draft by the window or anything off with the heat, send in a quick maintenance request—we’re always here to help.

And just a heads-up: patios and balconies can get slick! Step outside with care if you’re checking on a wintery sunrise or grabbing something you’ve stored out there.

Your Car Needs Winter TLC, Too

Parking in our heated underground garage? You’re golden. If not, those frosty mornings can feel extra brutal. Make sure your windshield scraper’s handy and your gas tank isn’t running on fumes. No one wants to be stuck in the cold because of something preventable.

And while it’s tempting to start your car and let it warm up, remember—never leave it running unattended. Besides being unsafe, it’s also illegal in some places unless it’s remote-started and locked.

If you haven’t already tossed a blanket, jumper cables, or even an old pair of boots in your trunk—now’s a good time. It’s one of those things you’ll hopefully never need, but you’ll thank yourself if you do.

Out and About? Take It Slow

We get it. You’ve got errands to run, places to be, maybe even a Hawkeyes game to catch. But winter sidewalks don’t care about your plans.

Move a little slower than usual and watch for icy patches, especially when getting into your car or walking near entryways. Use the handrails, even if you don’t usually. (No one looks cool slipping on black ice.)

Layer up, wear shoes with grip, and if your cheeks start to go numb—that’s your body’s way of saying, “Let’s get back inside.”

Winter Can Be Wonderful—If You’re Prepared

Living in Iowa means winter is part of the deal—but when you’ve got a comfortable apartment, helpful staff, and a community that looks out for you, it’s not so bad. At Cambridge Place, we do everything we can to make winter easier, from maintaining the property to keeping you informed.

So throw on your warmest socks, make a hot drink, and enjoy the season—safely.
