About Cambridge Place Apartments in Iowa City

Cambridge Place Apartments offers a unique approach to apartment rentals in Iowa City. It’s built on family ownership, long-term quality, and a commitment to comfortable living. Every decision, from construction to daily management, is made with residents in mind.

Cambridge Place Apartments: Powered by the Sun

At Cambridge Place Apartments, we’re proud to combine comfort with a commitment to sustainability. In November 2016, we took a major step toward a greener future by installing a 35 kWh solar array on our rooftop. Designed and installed by Eagle Point Solar, the system originally provided about 50% of the power needed for our building’s common areas—reducing our carbon footprint and setting a strong foundation for clean energy use. It also helps lower long-term operating costs while supporting a more efficient and environmentally responsible community.

To put that impact in perspective, over the system’s lifetime, this offset has:

  • Saved more than 878 tons of CO₂
  • Equaled the effect of planting over 20,000 trees
  • Reduced driving by about 1.75 million miles
  • Offset the energy use of 100 homes
  • Cut down coal usage by nearly 856,000 pounds

Thoughtful Improvements Over Time

In October 2020, we began construction on a solar expansion with Eagle Point Solar to take things to the next level. The goal? Covering 100% of the electrical needs for all common areas of the building. In addition, we have achieved placement of our 52.73 kW solar array.

As of January 16, 2026, here’s what our solar array has accomplished:

  • 516 MWh of power produced since the system first went online
  • 800,000 lbs of CO₂ emissions avoided
  • The environmental equivalent of planting 6040 trees

We’re proud to be part of Iowa City’s clean energy future, and we thank our residents for supporting environmentally responsible apartment living.

A Family Legacy Built on Craftsmanship and Community

Cambridge Place Apartments was constructed in 1973 by brothers Leslie H. Miller and Lyle W. Miller, both proud University of Iowa graduates and long-time residents of Iowa City. With a shared passion for quality construction and community involvement, they built not just homes—but a legacy.

Les, a civil engineer and owner of Coralville Products, brought technical expertise and innovation to the table. He was also an active member of the Optimist International Club and even held a U.S. patent for an improved block-making machine used in construction.

Lyle, a general contractor and owner of Miller Lumberyard, was equally influential in shaping local neighborhoods. A dedicated member of Lions Clubs International, he spent decades building both single-family homes and multifamily complexes throughout Iowa City, always with a commitment to high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

Together, the Miller brothers also owned and managed Montclaire Park, Rochester Square, and, of course, Cambridge Place Apartments—properties known for their solid construction and enduring value.

Strong Women, Strong Roots

After Les’s passing in 1994, his wife, Phyllis H. Miller, stepped into ownership and took an active role in the daily operations of Cambridge Place. Her leadership continued until her passing in 2008. That same year, ownership of the property passed to her daughters, Mary Kay Adams and Janet Witort, continuing the family’s connection to the community.

In February 1997, Mary Kay’s son, Clark Adams, joined Cambridge Place as property manager—marking the third generation of family stewardship.

Locally Owned, Proudly Operated

In April 2009, Cambridge Place entered a new chapter. With Janet residing in Nevada, it became clear that maintaining local ownership would best serve the property and its residents. Janet made the decision to sell her share of the property, and Kevin and Mary Kay Adams became the sole owners. Together, they represent the second generation of local ownership—and their commitment to maintaining the integrity, quality, and personal attention that Cambridge Place has been known for since day one remains as strong as ever.

Our Commitment to Quality and Resident Care

At Cambridge Place Apartments, we are dedicated to providing each resident with a high-quality apartment home and service that is timely, professional, and courteous. Our team strictly follows all Fair Housing laws and actively supports Equal Housing Rights initiatives. To stay current with industry best practices, our management team attends continuing education classes each year—ensuring we’re always providing informed, top-level care. As a result, we’re able to provide a level of service that consistently goes above and beyond what larger apartment communities offer.

We’re proud members of the Greater Iowa City Area Apartment Association—where Clark serves on the board—and the Landlords of Iowa, reflecting our commitment to both local involvement and high professional standards.

Thoughtful Features. Trusted Brands. Real Convenience.

We believe that apartment living should feel like home—starting with quality materials and trusted products. That’s why we’ve outfitted our apartments with:

For your comfort and peace of mind, our buildings feature a secure video intercom system for safe access, as well as accessible on-site recycling.

And with heating, water, Wi-Fi, and cable included, you’ll only have one bill to manage—your rent.

Giving Back and Growing Green

At Cambridge Place Apartments, we believe that being a good neighbor means more than just providing a great place to live. At the same time, we’re committed to civic engagement and environmental stewardship right here in our community.

Sustainability is woven into how we operate. Our solar power array helps offset energy use, while our landscaping, flower gardens, and comprehensive recycling program support a cleaner, greener environment. We’ve also invested in using recycled plastic lumber for our deck floors and railings—small choices that add up to long-term impact.

Beyond environmental efforts, we take pride in supporting local organizations that make a difference. Over the years, we’ve contributed to groups such as North Liberty Baseball and Softball (NLYBS), the North Liberty Lions Club, Scouting America, and Hancher Auditorium.

These commitments reflect what matters most to us: community, responsibility, and creating a place that residents are proud to call home.

Why It Matters for Residents

All of these choices—from construction quality to long-term property improvements—are made with one goal in mind: creating a better living experience. At Cambridge Place Apartments, residents benefit from a quieter environment, consistent maintenance, and a community designed for long-term comfort.
